Production | Decor by Stiffel Lowes packaging

Salton’s Decor by Stiffel brand asked the Chicago Catalog Group (now Haggin Marketing) to design and produce the packaging for a line of lighting to be sold exclusively at Lowes; I did the production work on various hang tags (one shown above) and boxes (see the next two pages) for the line. I created the clipping paths for all of the lamps (the pull chains were particularly fun). The metallic brushed metal background that you can see above proved to be a challenge, because the original designer had worked in RGB. I had to recreate the background so that the silver metal only printed on the black layer (so that it would not skew towards pink or green on press) — yet have the gold layer still print in 4CP and remain easily repositionable so that I could quickly blow out all of the designs and any future designs would be easy to create, as well. In the end, I used two layers: a CMYK metallic (with a layer mask to reveal the gold bar) and a K-only layer for the silver.
